My Paleo Rosh Hashanah Menu

Welcome Fall!

Here in NY it's finally getting a bit cooler out, and that gets me thinking about taking a break from cool Summer salads and getting back into rich and hearty root veggies, soups, and stews.

For Fall and Winter meals, I LOVE my slow cooker (here's the one I have). I use it at least once a week year round to make bone broth, but I use it so much in the colder months that I had to get a second one too!

This weekend we will be celebrating Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, which begins Sunday evening. So many people have asked me what I'm making that I thought I would share my menu with all of you! These gluten-free, paleo recipes are great not just for Rosh Hashanah, but for all the holidays that you will celebrate over the next few months.

Part of the tradition of the holiday is to celebrate with foods that are sweet, to signify the beginning of a sweet new year.  It might seem like a challenge to create a sweet meal without using any processed ingredients or refined sugars, but it doesn't have to be! These are just a few of my favorites. You can always find more of my favorite paleo and gluten free recipes on my Pinterest boards too.

Here's what I'm making this weekend:

Crock Pot Rump Roast from Civilized Caveman. I received a  grass-fed, local rump roast from my meat CSA and I can't wait for how amazing my house will smell once it's cooking!

I always make a tossed salad along with at least one cooked vegetable. This year I'm making Brussel Sprout Flavor Bombs from Paleo Newbie. These come out naturally sweet without any added sugars at all!

Elana's Pantry Carrot CakeMy own carrot kugel recipe was passed down from my Mom, and has become famous among my entire family.  Carrot kugel is basically a souffle (but a little more cake-like consistency) made with carrots, eggs, flour, brown sugar and seasonings.  I still make the original version as a long-standing tradition for the family, but these days I also make a paleo version so I can enjoy too - and this one is a winner. I love Elana's pantry paleo recipes for so many of my traditional holiday meals!

I still haven't decided Rosh Hashanah dessert I will choose this year. One of our favorites are the paleo Honey Cake Cupcakes from Lexi's clean kitchen. I have made these as cupcakes and also as a loaf cake and it's delicious every time!

Another family favorite is the Paleo Apple Kugel from Predominantly Paleo.  This one is also nut-free! Not too sweet, and such a beautiful presentation!

I might just have to make both. :-)  What's your favorite Rosh Hashanah recipe?

Wishing you all a sweet New Year!
